Getting started with Flocus
Plan your first day in minutes — no hardware needed — and add real-time flow tracking whenever you're ready.
Plan your day
Pick your most-important task and a short list. Thirty seconds, done.
Open the Planner and decide what today is for:
- Set your most-important task — the one thing that makes today count
- Add a short list of supporting tasks behind it
- Estimate the time each task will take — you'll compare against the actual later
A short list is the method, not a limitation. One most-important task keeps the day honest — a twenty-item list is where intentions go to wait.
Run your first focus block
A pomodoro timer pointed at a real task. No hardware needed.
Focus blocks work in any browser, on any device:
- Pick a task from your plan — start with the most-important one
- Start a focus block and work until the timer ends
- Take the short break, then run the next block
Each block logs its actual time against your estimate, so your planning gets more honest with every day you run.
Close your ring
Finish what you planned and watch the day close.
The Focus Ring fills as you complete what you planned. Closing it is the whole game:
- Check off your tasks as you finish them — the ring tracks your progress
- Keep your streak — every closed ring extends it
- Review your recap — weekly insights show where your focus actually went
A day you can see is a day you can win. Tomorrow morning, plan again — the ritual is the product.
Optional: connect your Muse for real-time flow tracking
The power-up — add a Muse EEG headband and Flocus can read your focus while you work.
Everything above works hardware-free. If you own a Muse headband (or want the deepest version of Flocus), you can add real-time flow tracking to your focus blocks.
Supported headbands
- Muse 2 — most popular, great for beginners
- Muse S (Gen 1 & Gen 2) — comfortable fabric design
- Original Muse — still fully supported
You can purchase a Muse headband from choosemuse.com or Amazon.
Use a desktop browser with Web Bluetooth
Headband sessions need Web Bluetooth, which only desktop browsers support:
- Chrome (recommended)
- Microsoft Edge
- Opera
- Safari
- Firefox
- Mobile browsers
Connect and position the headband
- Make sure your Muse is charged and turned on (hold button until LEDs light up)
- Enable Bluetooth on your computer
- Go to the Session page
- Click "Connect Device" and select your Muse from the list
- Seat the sensors above your eyebrows and behind your ears, and adjust until the signal indicators show green
- Sit still for the brief calibration (about 30 seconds) while Flocus learns your baseline
Make sure your Muse isn't connected to the Muse app on your phone — only one device can connect at a time. If the signal is poor, move hair off the sensors or slightly dampen them with water.

Tips for better sessions
Clear goals
Know what you want to accomplish before starting. Clear intentions lead to deeper focus.
Minimize distractions
Close unnecessary tabs, silence notifications, and create a focused environment.
Take breaks
Respect the break notifications. Mental fatigue hurts performance. Rest to stay sharp.
